The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 gets underway on 7 February 2026, with India hosting the tournament alongside co-host Sri Lanka. The International Cricket Council has put extensive preparations in place to ensure the global showpiece delivers both on and off the field.
A total of 20 nations will compete for the coveted trophy, bringing together the world’s best T20 talent. Ahead of the tournament, the ICC announced and published the complete list of match officials on 30 January 2026.
The officiating panel features six match referees and 24 umpires, all male, who will oversee proceedings throughout the tournament. While their role often goes unnoticed, umpires and referees play a crucial part in maintaining the integrity of the game.
That said, the announcement has sparked an important conversation. If male umpires regularly officiate women’s international matches, why are elite female umpires still missing from major men’s tournaments such as the World Cup, the Big Bash League, and the IPL?
